‘The Traitors,’ ‘Rockford Files’ Reboot

NBC has recently announced its fall schedule for the upcoming 2026-2027 broadcast season, introducing a new addition to its lineup – the broadcast edition of “The Traitors.” This new competition series will feature non-celebrity contestants and will be hosted by Emmy-winning host Alan Cumming. The show will follow the Faithful as they try to identify and eliminate the Traitors in order to win the grand prize of $250,000. “The Traitors” will air on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, serving as the lead-in for the popular series “Law & Order: SVU,” followed by “Law & Order” at 10 p.m.

The network is also waiting for news on the fate of “The Hunting Party,” which previously aired on Thursdays after the “Law & Order” block. As of now, the show has not received a formal renewal or cancellation, making it the only NBC primetime scripted show without a definite future.

In other news, “Law & Order” has been renewed for a 26th season, dispelling rumors that the show was on the bubble for cancellation. According to Lisa Katz, president of scripted content at NBC & Peacock, the decision to renew the show was based on scheduling and episode count rather than its popularity.

The popular “One Chicago” block will continue on Wednesday nights, with “Chicago Med” kicking off the lineup at 8 p.m., followed by “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD.”

NBC is also making room for two new dramas and two new comedies in its fall lineup. The new drama “Line of Fire,” starring Peter Krause and Hope Davis, will air on Mondays at 10 p.m. following “The Voice” in September. The show will continue to air at 10 p.m. after “The Voice” concludes its two-hour episode in October and November. Additionally, the comedy “St. Denis Medical” will air at 8 p.m., with Season 2 of “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” moving to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays.

A new multi-cam comedy titled “Newlyweds,” starring real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, will air on Fridays at 8:30 p.m. following new episodes of “Happy’s Place.”

Two highly anticipated new shows, a reboot of “The Rockford Files” starring David Boreanaz and the comedy “Sunset PI” from the creators of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” will debut at midseason. “Rockford Files” is scheduled to premiere in January, while “Sunset PI” will follow in February.

NBC has also greenlit a game show version of “Wordle” hosted by “Today’s” Savannah Guthrie, along with the return of unscripted series like “America’s Got Talent,” “American Ninja Warrior,” and “Password.” The network will also air special programming to celebrate its 100th anniversary, including “The Americas: A Wild 250th” and “The Americas: Mother’s Day.”

On the sports front, NBC will continue its coverage of NFL’s “Sunday Night Football” and NBA regular season games starting in October. “Sunday Night Basketball” will kick off in mid-winter, followed by NBA playoffs and “Sunday Night Baseball” in the spring. The network will also broadcast college football, WNBA games, and MLB postseason wild card playoffs.

In conclusion, NBC’s fall lineup for the 2026-2027 broadcast season promises a mix of new and returning shows, special programming, and sports coverage to keep viewers entertained throughout the year.
