Dee Freeman, a talented actress best known for her roles on “Sistas” and “The Young and the Restless,” has passed away at the age of 66. She lost her battle with cancer on April 2, as announced by her family on social media. The family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they received during her illness.

Born in Louisiana in 1959, Freeman had a unique journey to the world of acting. After serving in the United States Marine Corps following high school, she transitioned into theater before making a mark in television and film. Her disciplined and resilient nature, shaped by her military experience, reflected in her work.

Freeman gained recognition for her portrayal of Valerie Barnes on “Sistas,” where she played the role of Andi Barnes’ mother. She also appeared in shows like “The Young and the Restless,” “Shameless,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles,” as well as the comedy series “Pretty” from 2010 to 2015.

In addition to her acting career, Freeman was working on adapting her one-woman stage production, “Poison Gun,” into a novel. Her publicist, Desirae L. Benson, praised her for her grace, strength, and authenticity, even in the face of stage 4 lung cancer. Freeman’s quiet yet powerful presence left a lasting impact on those around her.

Freeman is survived by her children, Amber and Shane, as well as her mother and siblings.
