Toyota recalls nearly 394K vehicles over rearview camera issue
Toyota Recalls Nearly 394,000 Vehicles in the U.S. Over Rearview Camera Issues
Approximately 394,000 Toyota vehicles in the U.S. are being recalled due to rearview camera problems that could potentially hinder drivers’ ability to see behind them, posing a safety concern, according to auto regulators.
The recall affects certain model years 2022-2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles, as well as model years 2023-2025 Sequoia Hybrid vehicles, as stated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The root cause of the recall is a software glitch, according to NHTSA.
This error might result in the rearview image failing to display when the vehicle is put in reverse, leading to non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111, “Rear Visibility,” the regulators explained. This issue also heightens the risk of a potential crash for drivers.
Authorized dealers will perform a free update to the multimedia display software. Owners will receive notification of the recall via mail starting from November 16. Additionally, owners can contact Toyota customer service for further details.
This latest recall comes shortly after Toyota recalled over 443,000 Tundra and Tundra hybrid trucks due to a fault in their reverse lights that could cause them to malfunction.
During the May recall, NHTSA highlighted that the issue could diminish the driver’s rear visibility in “low ambient light conditions” and fail to provide a clear signal to others on the road when the trucks are backing up.
