Trucker arrested after young half-sisters found in refrigerated trailer
A recent incident in Utah has shocked the community after a trucker was arrested following a multi-vehicle pileup involving his tractor-trailer. The chaos unfolded on Interstate 15 in Lindon when a tire came loose from the truck and caused a chain reaction of collisions.
Amidst the wreckage, officers noticed something unusual – “two sets of eyes” peering out from the back of the refrigerated big rig. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the eyes belonged to two young girls, aged 12 and 14, who were trapped inside the trailer. The girls, who turned out to be the trucker’s half-sisters, had been locked inside for approximately two hours with no means of escape.
The situation took a darker turn when it was revealed that the thermostat inside the refrigerated trailer was set to a chilling 30 degrees, low enough to induce hypothermia. Despite the harrowing ordeal, the girls were well enough to undergo interviews with authorities from the Utah State Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Child and Family Services.
The driver, identified as Jacob Ortell Scott, was arrested on suspicion of third-degree felony aggravated child abuse. It was determined that the girls were not being trafficked, but the circumstances surrounding their confinement raised serious concerns. Scott was subsequently booked at the Utah County Jail without bail, with the judge citing “substantial evidence” that he posed a danger to the public.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise on the road, as well as the importance of vigilance and prompt action in ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in such incidents.
