Trump to Appear on ’60 Minutes’ After Correspondents Dinner Shooting

President Donald Trump will be interviewed on this Sunday night’s episode of “60 Minutes” by CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell following the shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The interview will focus on the shooting that occurred at the Washington Hilton ballroom, where President Trump, his cabinet members, and journalists were gathered. O’Donnell, who was present at the event, will discuss the experience with the President and examine what it signifies about the current state of the country.

This marks the second time that “60 Minutes” has interviewed Trump since he began his second term as President. The last interview took place in November 2026. The shooting incident led to the evacuation of Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other officials from the event as the suspect attempted to rush a security checkpoint and engaged in a confrontation with Secret Service officials on a different floor.

Following the incident, President Trump held a press conference and reassured the public that the dinner would be rescheduled within 30 days. He emphasized the importance of not letting such events disrupt society and expressed his determination to move forward with the event. Additionally, he took the opportunity to promote the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, a project that his administration continues to push for.

The President of the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), Weijia Jiang, expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies for ensuring the safety of everyone present at the event. She also extended well wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured officer. Despite the unsettling events of the night, Jiang emphasized unity and solidarity among WHCA members.

The episode of “60 Minutes” was originally planned to feature an interview with former U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse, who is battling terminal pancreatic cancer. The interview, conducted by Scott Pelley, was scheduled to be a part of a special edition of “Things That Matter.” The extended version of the interview will be available on various platforms, including “60 Minutes Overtime,” the “60 Minutes” podcast, and “Things That Matter” on Paramount+ and CBS News digital platforms.

As the nation processes the events of the shooting incident, the upcoming episode of “60 Minutes” promises to provide insight into the President’s perspective on the incident and its implications for the country. Stay tuned for this exclusive interview with President Donald Trump on Sunday night.
