US Banks Hit by Massive Third-Party Data Breach, Sensitive Information of 672,075 People Potentially Exposed
A prominent digital marketing and communications firm catering to banks in the US recently fell victim to a significant data breach affecting over 672,000 individuals. Marquis Software Solutions disclosed this alarming incident in a recent report submitted to the Office of the Maine Attorney General.
The breach was a result of an unauthorized third party gaining access to Marquis’ systems and pilfering files from their database. Although the firm did not specify the exact nature of the data compromised, they assured that the breach was contained within their database and did not infiltrate their clients’ systems.
“On or around August 14, 2025, we identified suspicious activity on our network, which led to the discovery of a data security incident. Following this, we promptly initiated an investigation and enlisted the help of cybersecurity experts. Law enforcement was also notified immediately,” Marquis disclosed in their statement.
After reviewing the affected files on December 10, 2025, Marquis took swift action to identify individuals whose information might have been compromised. They advise affected individuals to closely monitor their accounts for any unusual activity and report it promptly to the authorities. Additionally, Marquis is offering a complimentary one-year identity monitoring service through Epiq Privacy Solutions ID, which includes identity insurance and resolution services.
Despite the breach, the firm has not detected any instances of the exposed data being misused for fraudulent activities or identity theft within the banking industry. Marquis continues to investigate the incident and implement additional security measures to prevent future breaches.
