Venezuelan security guard pulled alive from building basement 8 days after twin quakes

Rescuers saved a 43-year-old security guard trapped under rubble for days following twin earthquakes in Venezuela

CATIA LA MAR, Venezuela — Rescuers managed to extract Hernán Alberto Gil Flores, a security guard, from a collapsed basement in La Guaira, Venezuela, after he was trapped for days following twin earthquakes.

Gil Flores, who was working a night shift when the earthquakes struck, miraculously survived as his security cabin shielded him from the collapsing structure, creating a pocket of air around him.

The Costa Rican Red Cross played a crucial role in detecting signs of life and establishing contact with Gil Flores, providing hope to his wife and children who had been in despair.

The rescue operation, led by Chilean firefighters with support from international teams, was a testament to human resilience and cooperation in the face of natural disasters.
