What’s open and closed on July 3 and July 4? See which stores are operating.

The upcoming July 4th weekend is a time of celebration for Americans across the country, as they gather to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the nation’s independence. With the holiday falling on a Saturday this year, many companies are expected to observe the holiday on July 3, while most retail stores will remain open on Friday. Here is a list of stores that will be open on July 3 and 4, 2026.

Stores open during regular hours on July 3-4 include Applebee’s, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, CVS Pharmacy (some stores may have reduced hours), Domino’s, Dollar General, Food Lion, IHOP, KFC, Kroger, Lowe’s, Macy’s, McDonald’s, Stop & Shop, Target, and Walmart.

Some stores have modified hours on July 4, such as Best Buy opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m., IKEA opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 6:00 p.m., JCPenney opening at 10 a.m., Marshalls closing at 8 p.m., Nordstrom with special holiday hours, HomeGoods, Homesense, Michaels closing at 6 p.m., Petco closing at 7 p.m., Trader Joe’s closing at 5 p.m., TJ Maxx closing at 8 p.m., Sierra closing at 8 p.m., and Whole Foods closing at 6 p.m.

Costco will be closed on July 4, while Target stores will operate during their normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Walmart stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both July 3 and July 4.

U.S. post offices will be open on July 3 for mail deliveries, but will be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday. FedEx and UPS will have modified schedules, with UPS halting pickup and delivery services on July 4, and FedEx stores potentially being closed on both July 3 and 4.

Major banks like JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo will remain open on July 3 but will be closed on July 4 for Independence Day. The stock market will also be closed on July 3 and will resume trading on July 6 at 9:30 a.m. ET.

As the holiday weekend approaches, Americans can enjoy the festivities with the knowledge of which stores and services will be available to them. Let’s celebrate the nation’s independence responsibly and safely.
