Woman in court in Hamptons hit-and-run death of Sara Burack
The recent tragic incident involving the hit-and-run death of Hamptons real estate agent Sara Burack has shaken the community. Amanda Kempton, a marine biologist from Virginia, was arrested in connection with the fatal accident. During her court appearance, Kempton’s lawyer claimed that she thought she had hit a traffic cone and did not realize she had struck a person.
Despite pleading not guilty, Kempton faces a serious charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality, which carries a potential sentence of seven years in prison. The prosecutor requested a high bail amount, citing Kempton as a flight risk, but she was released after her family put up collateral in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The incident occurred in Hampton Bays, where Burack was walking along Montauk Highway with a large pink suitcase when she was hit by Kempton’s vehicle. Kempton, who grew up in Virginia and holds degrees in microbiology and marine biology, allegedly spent time at a tavern before the accident. However, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the case.
Authorities used a license plate reader to track Kempton’s movements, leading them to her family’s home where her damaged vehicle was located. Despite the tragic outcome of the accident, Kempton and her family declined to comment after the court proceeding.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the consequences of leaving the scene of an accident. The community mourns the loss of Sara Burack, a well-known real estate agent who specialized in high-end properties and had appeared on the show “Million Dollar Beach House.” Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.
