Yankees promoting top prospect Elmer Rodriguez for MLB debut

The New York Yankees are set to add some young talent to their rotation with Elmer Rodriguez making his big league debut against the Rangers on Wednesday. The 22-year-old right-hander has been impressive at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, boasting a 1.27 ERA through four starts. He is also ranked as the team’s No. 3 prospect according to MLB.com.

Rodriguez’s promotion comes after the Yankees optioned Luis Gil to Triple-A following a rough outing against the Astros. Despite having an off day on Thursday, the Yankees have decided to slot Rodriguez into the rotation on Wednesday, just a week after his last start in Triple-A.

Acquired from the Red Sox in a trade for catcher Carlos Narváez before the 2025 season, Rodriguez will have a chance to showcase his skills at the major league level. However, his stint in the rotation may be short-lived as Carlos Rodón is expected to return from the injured list soon. The lefty is set to make another rehab start on Thursday before potentially rejoining the team.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Rodriguez gets set to take the mound for the Yankees.
