LA28 organizers confident Trump’s latest travel ban won’t affect Los Angeles Olympics
The planning and preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have been progressing well, with organizers expressing confidence that President Donald Trump’s latest travel ban will not hinder participants from entering the U.S.
During a news conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center, LA28 chairman and president Casey Wasserman acknowledged the federal government’s recognition of the special considerations required for the Olympics. He expressed gratitude for the government’s understanding and cooperation in accommodating the games.
International Olympic Committee member Nicole Hoevertsz, chair of the Coordination Commission for LA28, also expressed confidence in the U.S. government’s willingness to cooperate, citing previous successful collaborations in hosting Olympic events.
Following a three-day visit by sixteen IOC members to inspect various venue locations, including Dodger Stadium, Hoevertsz noted significant progress in the preparations for the games. With 1,135 days left until the opening on July 14, 2028, Wasserman emphasized that they are now in delivery mode.
As the six-month anniversary of the devastating wildfires that struck Pacific Palisades and Altadena approaches, Wasserman highlighted the importance of being prepared for various eventualities such as earthquakes and wildfires. The CEO of LA28, Reynold Hoover, mentioned ongoing contingency planning in response to such challenges.
From a financial perspective, Wasserman expressed confidence in the profitability of the games, emphasizing the need to generate sufficient revenue to avoid any financial losses. He noted that LA28 has already secured over 60% of contracted revenue, surpassing the total revenue of Paris despite not having sold any tickets yet.
In conclusion, the progress made in the planning and preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics reflects a strong commitment to delivering a successful and profitable event. With a focus on collaboration, preparedness, and financial sustainability, the organizers are confident in the smooth execution of the games.
