Springer hits go-ahead homer in Blue Jays’ 5-4 win over Twins

Blue Jays Rally Past Twins with Springer’s Late Heroics

MINNEAPOLIS — George Springer came up clutch for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, hitting a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning to lead his team to a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Springer’s decisive blast came against Twins reliever Griffin Jax, who surrendered a leadoff double to Addison Barger just moments before. The home run, Springer’s 10th of the season, broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Blue Jays the lead as a light rain began to fall at Target Field.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added an insurance run in the ninth with a two-out RBI single off Twins closer Jhoan Durán, securing the win for Toronto.

Chad Green picked up the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, while Jeff Hoffman notched his 15th save despite allowing a solo homer to Kody Clemens in the ninth.

The Twins briefly took the lead in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Matt Wallner, his second in three days. However, Toronto responded with key hits late in the game to secure the victory.

Both starting pitchers, Kevin Gausman for the Blue Jays and Chris Paddack for the Twins, delivered solid performances, keeping the game close throughout.

Toronto’s Bowden Francis will look to end his winless streak in Sunday’s series finale, while Joe Ryan aims to continue his strong run for the Twins.
