Swiss Chocolate Manufacturer Maestrani Acquires Belgian Pralines Producer Delafaille
Swiss chocolate manufacturer Maestrani Schweizer Schokoladen has recently announced the acquisition of the family business Delafaille, a renowned Belgian pralines producer. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition not only includes the shares of Delafaille but also encompasses the company’s subsidiary Ostrapack, located in Ostrava, Czech Republic, specializing in chocolate packaging.
In a statement on LinkedIn, Maestrani expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating that it provides an opportunity to diversify its product range with Belgian praline and truffle specialties, ultimately strengthening its presence in the international market.
Delafaille, established in 1999 and based in Beveren, is known for manufacturing and packaging moulded pralines, enrobed seashells, and cocoa-dusted truffles.
According to Maestrani, Delafaille has a strong focus on exports, with key markets including the US, Latin America, and Asia. The products of Delafaille are distributed globally through various channels, such as retail and private label partnerships.
Maestrani, the owner of brands like Munz, Minor, and Avelines, confirmed that the current team at Delafaille will be retained. Additionally, Paul Daems, the current owner and CEO of Delafaille, will stay with the company for a limited period to facilitate the transition, after which a new CEO will be appointed.
This acquisition comes after Maestrani’s purchase of Swiss chocolatier Chocolat Ammann in April. Both Maestrani and Chocolat Ammann have a strong national distribution in Swiss retail and export businesses.
Maestrani described the acquisitions as part of a successful revitalization strategy, following the rejuvenation of the Geneva praline brand Avelines in 2022.
