Brewers’ Misiorowski and Pirates’ Skenes set new standards for velocity in Milwaukee’s 4-2 win

Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski and Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes made headlines on Wednesday with their impressive display of pitching prowess. In their first matchup, the 23-year-old flamethrowers set new standards for velocity without needing to throw as many as 80 pitches.

Misiorowski dominated the game, striking out eight batters and allowing only two hits and two walks in five shutout innings. His performance helped lead the Brewers to a 4-2 victory over Skenes’ Pirates. According to Sportradar, Misiorowski averaged an impressive 99.5 mph on his fastball, while Skenes wasn’t far behind at 98.5 mph. This marked the highest combined fastball velocity by two starting pitchers in a game since at least 2009.

Misiorowski consistently hit speeds of over 100 mph, reaching a peak of 102.4 mph on 19 of his 74 pitches. Skenes also touched 100 mph once out of his 78 pitches. This game set a new record for the most combined 100-mph pitches by opposing starters in a single game since at least 2009.

In his first three career starts, Misiorowski has been nothing short of dominant, boasting a perfect 3-0 record and a stellar 1.13 ERA. He has recorded 19 strikeouts while allowing just four hits and seven walks over 16 innings.

On the other hand, Skenes had a rough outing, lasting only four innings and giving up four runs, four hits, and two walks. This performance increased his career ERA from 1.91 to 2.03. It was only the third time in 40 career starts that Skenes had allowed as many as four runs in a game.

Overall, the matchup between Misiorowski and Skenes showcased the incredible talent and potential of these young pitchers. Fans can expect to see more exciting performances from these rising stars in the future.
