Nearly 150,000 pounds of bologna recalled due to undeclared “meat or poultry source materials”

Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. has issued a recall of approximately 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna due to misbranding, according to federal health officials. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service made the announcement on Friday, stating that the products were distributed to various wholesale and retail locations across the country. The issue stems from the fact that the meat or poultry source materials used in the products are not properly declared on the labels.

The recalled products, produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025, include a range of bologna varieties sold under different names. These include “FAMILY TREE BOLOGNA VEAL,” “BABUSHKA’S RECIPE CHICKEN BOLOGNA,” “FANCY BOLOGNA,” “GAISERS RUSSIAN BRAND DOKTORSKAYA BOLOGNA,” “GAISERS BOLOGNA VEAL,” “GAISERS TURKEY BOLOGNA,” and “CHICKEN BOLOGNA KYPOYKA PABA.” Consumers can identify the recalled products by looking for the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the packaging.

It is important to note that some of the products may have been weighed, wrapped, and labeled in retail stores at the time of purchase. The USDA has provided images of the package labels for reference. While the Food Safety and Inspection Service does not anticipate any adverse health effects and there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions, consumers are advised not to consume the recalled products. Instead, they should dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase. Individuals who are concerned about potential illness should seek advice from a healthcare provider.
