Phillie Phanatic hilariously recreates viral Coldplay kiss cam scandal

The Philadelphia Phillies put their own spin on the viral Coldplay concert “kiss cam” moment during Friday night’s game against the Angels at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillie Phanatic and another mascot, both dressed in blonde wigs, were featured on the outfield video board as the Coldplay song “Clocks” played. They recreated the awkward reactions seen in the original viral video where Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR head Kristin Cabot were caught on the kiss cam at a Coldplay concert on July 16.

In the video, the mascots quickly hid their faces in a humorous attempt to conceal a supposed affair, reminiscent of the viral moment that sparked controversy. The incident led to both executives being placed on leave by Astronomer pending an internal investigation.

The tech-and-data firm released a statement saying, “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability. The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.”

Despite the entertaining distraction, the Phillies ultimately fell short in the game, losing 6-5 to the Angels. The team’s record now stands at 55-42 for the season, maintaining a 1/2 game lead over the Mets, who also suffered a loss on Friday.

The recreated kiss cam moment provided a lighthearted moment during the game, adding some humor to the ongoing drama surrounding the original viral video. Fans at the stadium enjoyed the playful nod to the infamous incident, showcasing the Phillies’ creativity and sense of humor.
