Jonah Tong, Jett Williams lead group of Mets prospect promoted to Triple-A
The New York Mets organization made some significant roster moves on Sunday night, promoting some of their top prospects to higher levels within their minor league system. According to a report from The Athletic’s Will Sammon, the team called up their top pitching prospect, right-hander Jonah Tong, to Triple-A Syracuse.
Tong has been impressive in Double-A, boasting a 1.58 ERA and an impressive 154 strikeouts in just 19 starts. This performance has earned him a promotion to the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate, where he will continue to showcase his talents and work towards a potential call-up to the big leagues.
Ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Mets organization by MLB Pipeline, Tong recently participated in the All-Star Futures Game in July, further solidifying his status as a top prospect to watch in the team’s farm system.
Joining Tong in Triple-A Syracuse are fellow prospects Jett Williams, Carson Benge, and Ryan Clifford. In addition to these promotions, the Mets are also moving A.J. Ewing up from High-A to Double-A, providing these young players with the opportunity to further develop their skills and potentially make an impact at the major league level in the future.
These roster moves signal the Mets’ commitment to developing their young talent and providing them with opportunities to grow and succeed within the organization. Fans will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on these prospects as they continue their journey through the minor leagues and work towards achieving their dreams of playing in the major leagues for the New York Mets.
