B-2 stealth bombers flown into Alaska base ahead of Trump-Putin meeting: Officials

The Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska recently welcomed two B-2 bombers ahead of the summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. These stealth bombers, known for their role in June’s Operation Midnight Hammer targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, symbolize U.S. power with their ability to fly long distances nonstop and carry various types of munitions.

As the two world leaders met on the tarmac, a B-2 bomber accompanied by four F-35 fighter jets flew overhead, adding to the dramatic atmosphere. The red carpet was laid out with F-22 fighter jets on either side, showcasing their stealth capabilities and prowess in air-to-air combat. The F-22 Raptors are already stationed at the air base, reinforcing the display of military might.

It remains unclear whether President Trump specifically requested the presence of the bombers and fighter jets as a show of force before his discussions with Putin, who leads another nuclear power. However, B-2 Spirit bombers have operated from the base in the past, highlighting the strategic importance of the location.

In recent weeks, Trump has praised the B-2 bombers and their pilots for their role in Operation Midnight Hammer, where they flew a grueling 36-hour mission to Iran and successfully dropped bunker-buster bombs on target. Despite Trump’s claims of total destruction, the extent of the damage is still being assessed by U.S. military officials. The president has announced plans for “new and enhanced” B-2 aircraft, emphasizing their significance in U.S. defense strategy.

“It’s an amazing machine,” Trump remarked, showcasing a small model of the B-2 bomber to reporters. The presence of these advanced aircraft at the summit serves as a reminder of the military capabilities of the United States and sets the tone for high-stakes diplomatic discussions between world leaders.
