Organic frozen spinach distributed nationwide recalled due to potential listeria contamination

Food safety is always a top priority, especially when it comes to preventing foodborne illnesses. Recently, Sno Pac Foods, a Minnesota-based company, issued a recall for two types of organic frozen spinach due to potential listeria contamination. Listeria is a harmful bacteria that can lead to serious illness, particularly in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.

The recalled products include Del Mar 35-pound Bulk Organic Frozen Spinach with specific lot codes and expiry dates, as well as Sno Pac 10-ounce Organic Frozen Cut Spinach with different lot codes and best by dates. While no illnesses have been reported so far, it’s crucial to be aware of the potential risks associated with listeria contamination.

Symptoms of listeria infection can range from high fever and severe headache to nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can even lead to miscarriages and stillbirths. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises anyone who has purchased these recalled products to dispose of them or return them for a refund.

It’s important to note that the production of the affected products has been suspended while Sno Pac Foods investigates the source of the contamination. As always, practicing proper food safety measures, such as washing hands and utensils, cooking food thoroughly, and storing perishable items correctly, can help reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.
