BOSTON — There was an explosion early Saturday at Harvard Medical School that appears to have been intentional, but no one was injured, authorities said.

A university police officer who responded to a fire alarm tried to stop two unidentified people who ran from the Goldenson Building before going to where the alert was triggered, university police said in a statement.

The Boston Fire Department determined that the explosion was intentional and officers did not find additional devices in a sweep of the building, police said.

Police released grainy photos of two people wearing face coverings and what looked like sweatshirts.

Early Saturday morning, an explosion rocked Harvard Medical School in what authorities are calling an intentional act. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

According to university police, a fire alarm prompted a response from a police officer who attempted to stop two individuals fleeing from the Goldenson Building. It was only after the officer’s pursuit that the source of the alarm was discovered.

The Boston Fire Department conducted an investigation and confirmed that the explosion was intentional. Thankfully, a thorough search of the building did not reveal any additional devices.

In an effort to identify the perpetrators, police have released surveillance images showing two individuals wearing face coverings and hooded sweatshirts.
