Officer critically injured in crash with state trooper during Vance motorcade
Two law enforcement officers were involved in a crash on Friday night while providing security for Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade in Maryville, Tennessee, resulting in one officer being critically injured, according to officials.
The incident occurred during an executive protection mission involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including an officer from the Maryville Police Department’s motor unit and a state trooper, Maryville officials confirmed.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service verified that the motorcade included Vice President Vance. Katherine Pierce, a resident agent in charge with the Knoxville office, stated that the protectees were not affected by the crash and that the Secret Service is closely monitoring the situation.
An ambulance that was part of the motorcade stopped immediately to provide medical attention to the injured motor officer. Special Agent Jason Pack from the Tennessee Department of Safety reported that the officer was then taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for further treatment.
Maryville police officials have confirmed that the injured officer is in critical condition. The trooper involved in the collision was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and did not require transportation to a medical facility.
Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp requested for prayers for the injured officer, their family, and the medical staff involved in their care. He expressed gratitude for the community’s support and concern during this difficult time.
City officials have stated that more information will be shared with the public as it becomes available. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
