19-year-old college student deported despite judge’s order blocking her removal: Lawyer

A 19-year-old college student, Ana Lucia Lopez Belloza, who was excited to surprise her family for Thanksgiving break, faced a nightmare at the Boston airport. Despite a federal judge’s order blocking her removal, she was detained and later deported to Honduras. Ana, who had come to the U.S. from Honduras when she was just 8 years old, was on her way to Texas to visit her parents and siblings when airport authorities stopped her from boarding her flight.

Her attorney, Todd Pomerleau, revealed that Ana was informed of a removal order, detained, and then arrested at the airport. Despite a federal judge’s order not to remove her from the U.S. or transfer her outside of Massachusetts, Ana was transferred to Texas that same evening and deported to Honduras the next day. This sudden turn of events left her stranded in a foreign country, far away from her family and studies.

Pomerleau expressed his disappointment at the situation, stating that Ana had been looking forward to spending time with her family, taking finals, and returning to her college. Instead, she found herself in a difficult and unexpected situation in Honduras. The attorney vowed to fight for Ana’s return to the U.S. and seek justice for the unjust deportation that occurred.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Ana had a removal order since 2015 and defended her deportation. However, there has been no official statement from ICE or the Department of Homeland Security regarding the matter.

The case of Ana Lucia Lopez Belloza highlights the challenges faced by individuals caught in immigration issues and the importance of legal representation and advocacy. The fight for justice and fair treatment for immigrants like Ana continues, as they navigate complex legal processes and strive for a better future in the U.S.
