Man arrested in Florida in killing of woman, toddler once associated with Long Island serial murders
The tragic case of a woman and her 2-year-old daughter found dead on Long Island, once linked to the infamous Gilgo Beach serial murders, has resurfaced with the arrest of their suspected killer, Andrew Dykes. Dykes, 66, was apprehended near Tampa and faces murder charges in connection with the 1997 death of Tanya Jackson.
Jackson, 26 at the time of her death, was discovered dismembered in Lakeview in June 1997. Her daughter, Tatiana, was found 14 years later near Gilgo Beach. For years, the mother was known only as “Peaches” due to a distinct tattoo, while her daughter was referred to as “Baby Doe.”
In April, authorities in New York finally identified Jackson and her daughter, offering a $25,000 reward for information in the cold case. The discovery of Tatiana’s remains in 2011 near other women’s remains sparked speculation about the Gilgo Beach serial killer’s involvement. Rex Heuermann, a Long Island architect and father, was arrested in 2023 in connection with several Gilgo Beach slayings but was never charged in the deaths of Jackson and her daughter.
The arrest of Andrew Dykes brings a sense of closure to a case that has haunted Long Island for decades. As the legal proceedings unfold, the families of the victims hope for justice to be served and for their loved ones to finally rest in peace. The community remains vigilant, knowing that the truth behind these heinous crimes is slowly coming to light.
