Andy Reid plans to return as Chiefs coach next season
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid made it clear on Monday that he has no plans to retire anytime soon. Despite a disappointing 6-10 season, Reid expressed his intention to return for the next season during a Zoom call with local reporters.
The 67-year-old coach, who has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles, joked about his future with the franchise, stating, “If they’ll have me back, I’ll come back. You never know in this business. That’s a tough one. But I plan on it, yeah.”
Reid, who signed a lucrative five-year, $100 million extension with the Chiefs in 2024, has been a staple in the NFL coaching world for over two decades. He spent his first 14 seasons as a head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles before moving to Kansas City, where he has enjoyed even greater success.
With star quarterbacks like Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes leading the way, Reid has compiled an impressive record of 149 regular-season wins and a playoff record of 18-8 during his tenure with the Chiefs. Despite missing the playoffs this season, Reid’s legacy in Kansas City is undeniable, with a streak of ten consecutive playoff trips, nine AFC West titles, and three Super Bowl appearances in the past three years.
In his illustrious coaching career, Reid has amassed a total of 307 wins, putting him in striking distance of surpassing George Halas for third place on the NFL’s all-time coaching wins list, behind only Bill Belichick and Don Shula.
As Reid looks ahead to the future, Chiefs fans can rest assured that their legendary coach will be back on the sidelines next season, ready to lead the team to even greater heights.
