Warley scores 19 points and Fogle grabs key rebound as No. 8 Gonzaga edges San Francisco 68-66
The No. 8 Gonzaga Bulldogs continued their winning streak with a nail-biting 68-66 victory over the San Francisco Dons on Saturday night. Jalen Warley led the scoring with 19 points, while Davis Fogle added 15 points and a crucial last-second rebound to secure the win.
Despite missing their top two scorers for the third consecutive game, Gonzaga managed to outlast San Francisco thanks to contributions from Tyon Grant-Foster, who also scored 15 points. Braden Huff and Graham Ike were sidelined with injuries, but the team rallied together to extend their winning streak to 14 games.
San Francisco put up a strong fight, with Legend Smiley scoring 18 points and Ryan Beasley adding 14. The Dons were hot from beyond the arc, sinking 14 of 28 3-point attempts in an effort to end their 34-game losing streak against Gonzaga.
In the final minutes of the game, Junjie Wang and Vukasin Masic made key plays to keep the Dons within striking distance. However, it was Fogle’s clutch rebound in the closing seconds that sealed the victory for Gonzaga.
The Bulldogs got off to a strong start, opening the game with a 12-0 run. Despite San Francisco’s comeback efforts, Gonzaga maintained a lead throughout the game and held on for the win.
Looking ahead, San Francisco will face Santa Clara next, while Gonzaga is set to host rival Saint Mary’s in their next matchup. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their impressive winning streak as they push towards the postseason.
