10 million pounds of popular foods in Trader Joe’s recall

Trader Joe’s Recalls Nearly 10 Million Pounds of Vegetable Fried Rice

Trader Joe’s has expanded its nationwide recall to include popular items like Vegetable Fried Rice after glass was found in the meals. Ajimoto Foods North America Inc. recalled a total of 9,885,240 pounds of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice due to the contamination.

The glass shards found in the meals ranged from 1 to 3 cm long and 2 to 4 mm wide. The affected products had best-buy dates between Feb. 28, 2026, and Nov. 19, 2026, and were sold in 43 states, with seven states remaining unaffected by the recall.

This recall is an expansion of a previous recall issued in February and later expanded in March. The investigation revealed that a vegetable source ingredient, specifically carrots, was the likely source of the glass contamination.

Other affected items include Trader Joe’s Chicken Shu Mai and Chicken Fried Rice, with best-buy dates ranging from Feb. 28, 2026, to Aug. 19, 2027. In total, nearly 37 million pounds of various ready-to-eat items were recalled, affecting 16 brands under popular names like Kroger and Tai Pei.

Health authorities have warned that tainted items may still be in customers’ freezers. The full list of recalled products can be found here.

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries associated with the contamination. The FDA advises anyone concerned about potential injuries to consult a healthcare provider. Customers are urged not to consume the recalled products and to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.
