Tragic Train-Van Collision Claims Five Lives in Wiggins, Mississippi

On a fateful day in rural Mississippi, a horrific collision between a train and a van resulted in the loss of five lives, authorities confirmed on Friday. The tragic incident took place near the town of Wiggins, approximately 45 miles northwest of Biloxi, leaving a community in mourning.

All five individuals who tragically lost their lives were occupants of the van at the time of the collision, according to Stone County Coroner Wayne Flurry. The sole survivor, a 23-year-old woman, was airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the train passengers.

The fatal crash occurred when a Canadian Pacific Kansas City freight train collided with the van at a crossing, as stated by the railroad company in an official statement. The Stone County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the devastating incident.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims affected by this tragedy,” expressed the railroad company, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss on the community and loved ones left behind.

The victims of the collision were identified as the driver of the van, Ryan C. Peterson, 26, and the front seat passenger, Kristina Carver, 45. Tragically, two of Carver’s daughters, 22-year-old Emley Chamblee and 20-year-old Sarabeth Chamblee, along with 23-year-old Demarcus Perkins, also lost their lives in the devastating crash.
