Peter Alexander to Exit NBC News

Peter Alexander, a dedicated TV-news correspondent known for his hard work, has announced his departure from NBC News. In a heartfelt message to viewers during a weekend telecast of “Today,” Alexander shared his decision to leave his longtime home at the network.

For many years, Alexander has taken on the challenging task of co-anchoring the Saturday broadcast of “Today” while also serving as NBC News’ chief White House correspondent. His responsibilities often involved working with sources in Washington during the week and then traveling to New York City for his “Today” duties. With 15 years of experience covering the White House and working weekends on “Today” since 2018, Alexander has been a trusted presence at NBC News.

In a memo to staff members, Chloe Arensberg, NBC News’ Washington Bureau Chief, and Matt Carluccio, executive producer of weekend broadcasts of “Today,” expressed their gratitude for Alexander’s contributions and wished him the best in his future endeavors. During an emotional segment on Saturday, Alexander mentioned his desire to spend more time with his two young children, as he had missed over 200 Friday nights preparing for his weekend role.

Although Alexander did not disclose his next career move, there is speculation that he may join MS NOW, which has an open anchor slot for its 11 a.m. hour on weekdays. The network, backed by Versant, has recently revamped its daytime schedule but has yet to announce a host for the 11 a.m. position.

Throughout his career, Alexander has been known for asking thoughtful questions of political figures, which sometimes led to backlash. Notably, during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, his question to then-President Trump about reassuring scared Americans resulted in a contentious exchange. Despite facing challenges, Alexander has continued to work diligently across different administrations, adapting to the fast-paced news environment.

Having joined NBC News in 2004, Alexander has covered a wide range of stories both domestically and internationally. He has served as a White House correspondent, national correspondent, and co-chief White House correspondent. With a desire for new challenges, Alexander’s departure from NBC News opens up opportunities for other talented journalists within the organization.

Similar to other TV-news personalities who have made career moves, Alexander’s departure from NBC News reflects a trend in the industry. As networks evolve and anchor positions shift, journalists like Alexander seek new opportunities to grow and expand their careers.

As NBC News prepares to fill Alexander’s roles with other staff members on an interim basis, viewers can expect a seamless transition as the network continues to deliver quality news coverage. The legacy of Peter Alexander at NBC News will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the industry.
