Kam Patterson made a surprise appearance as Professor Snape from the Harry Potter series during a segment of “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live. His casting as Snape is a nod to the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO, where the character will be portrayed by Black actor Paapa Essiedu.
Patterson, in character as Snape, began by speaking in a formal tone before humorously switching to a more casual style. He joked about code-switching and added a touch of humor to the segment.
When asked about his year at Hogwarts, Snape humorously shared his experience with a new student named Harry Potter, whom he jokingly referred to as “the Proud Boy Who Lived.” Snape comically recounted how Harry accused the only Black teacher at the school of being evil.
In a witty exchange with Colin Jost, Snape pointed out the racial bias in the wizarding world, particularly the unfair suspicion placed on him as a Black character.
