Oklahoma State softball game postponed after fatal crash involving team bus
The Oklahoma State softball team faced a tragic incident on Wednesday when their bus was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of a woman on I-35. The game against Wichita State had to be postponed as a result, but thankfully, no one on the bus was injured.
According to a press release from Oklahoma State, the accident occurred while the team was en route to Wichita for the game. The northbound lanes were closed for over two hours following the crash, which took place around 2 p.m. The victim has not yet been identified, but authorities had been alerted to a woman running across the highway prior to the accident.
The game between Oklahoma State and Wichita State was a resumption of a previously suspended game from March 10, which was stopped in the seventh inning due to rain. The Shockers were leading 8-3 at the time of the interruption.
Despite the delay, both teams will soon be back in action. Oklahoma State will travel to face Iowa State in a weekend series, while Wichita State will host UTSA. The teams are scheduled to resume play on Friday after a day off on Thursday.
Oklahoma State currently holds a 25-10 record and is ranked No. 20 in the country. Standout players Rosie Davis and Amanda Hasler lead the team with nine home runs each, and an impressive 11 hitters are batting over .300 as of Thursday.
On the other hand, Wichita State, with a 21-15 record, is not ranked nationally. Trinity Allen and Ausha Moore are key players for the Shockers, boasting impressive batting averages and multiple home runs.
As of now, a new date for the completion of the game between Oklahoma State and Wichita State has not been announced. The teams will likely work together to reschedule the matchup at a later time.
