Mets were this close to ‘disaster’ with Craig Kimbrel, Francisco Alvarez
The New York Mets are still trying to find their groove with their newest addition, Craig Kimbrel. In his second appearance with the team, Kimbrel had a close call with catcher Francisco Alvarez during a game against the Dodgers.
With two outs in the sixth inning and the Dodgers leading 4-0, Alvarez called for time while Kimbrel was mid-windup. This miscommunication led to a tense moment as Kimbrel nearly threw the ball at Alvarez, who was not in the correct position to catch it.
Fortunately, Kimbrel managed to hold back the pitch, avoiding a potentially dangerous situation. Ohtani and the home plate umpire also reacted quickly to avoid any harm. The broadcast team expressed their shock at the incident, highlighting the potential disaster that was narrowly avoided.
Despite the momentary chaos, Kimbrel was able to refocus and get Ohtani to fly out to end the inning. However, the Mets were unable to mount a comeback as the Dodgers’ Justin Wrobleski shut down their offense.
The Mets have been struggling as of late, losing six straight games with star Juan Soto sidelined due to a calf strain. They will be looking to turn things around with ace Nolan McLean on the mound in their upcoming game against the Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Overall, it’s clear that Kimbrel and the Mets still have some kinks to work out as they continue to adjust to playing together. With time and practice, they will hopefully find their rhythm and start stringing together some wins.
