CPD warns of armed robbers targeting people leaving South Side parties
Chicago Police Warn South Side Residents of Armed Robbery Scheme at Fake Parties
Chicago police have issued a warning to residents on the South Side about a dangerous armed robbery scheme targeting partygoers in the Chatham, Grand Crossing, and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods. According to authorities, a group of armed robbers has been luring victims to fake parties only to rob them at gunpoint as they leave. This alarming trend has resulted in at least nine reported incidents since February, with five of those occurring on the same block.
Victims are reportedly invited to these fake parties where they are then confronted by multiple armed offenders, primarily targeting their smartphones. The most targeted area seems to be the 7900 block of South Wabash Avenue, with multiple incidents reported on different dates. Additional robberies have taken place in the Grand Crossing area, specifically in the 7000 and 6900 blocks of South Vernon Avenue. Two more incidents were reported in the 7800 block of South Carpenter Street and the 7000 block of South King Drive.
Area Two detectives are currently investigating these incidents and urge anyone with information to come forward by calling 312-747-8273. Residents are advised to be cautious and vigilant when attending parties in these neighborhoods and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
This warning serves as a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings and to prioritize personal safety when attending social gatherings. It is essential to stay informed and take precautions to avoid falling victim to such criminal schemes. The Chicago Police Department is actively working to address this issue and ensure the safety of all residents in the affected areas.
