Hollywood icon filling up your gas tanks at LA station — and it’s all free
Keke Palmer and LaKeith Stanfield, stars of the upcoming movie “I Love Boosters,” are set to make a generous gesture at a gas station in Los Angeles. The duo will be personally filling up the tanks of the first 70 drivers who show up at a Shell station on West Pico Boulevard on Tuesday morning. This act of kindness is part of a “boosted” gas giveaway to promote their new film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22.
With gas prices soaring in California, this giveaway couldn’t have come at a better time. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in the state is around $6.15, due to additional charges for emissions fees and climate programs. In San Bernardino County, gas prices are even higher at $6.12, prompting some drivers to make the trip to nearby Arizona, where gas is significantly cheaper at $4.83 per gallon.
The disparity in gas prices between California and Arizona can be attributed to the difference in state taxes. While California imposes additional taxes of 34 to 44 cents per gallon, Arizona charges only 18 cents per gallon. The state excise tax in California has nearly doubled in the past decade, contributing to the high gas prices that residents are currently facing.
This giveaway event is likely to draw a crowd, as residents look for relief from the burden of expensive gas prices. Keke Palmer and LaKeith Stanfield’s gesture of filling up drivers’ tanks for free is a welcome respite for many struggling Californians. As the state continues to grapple with rising gas prices, acts of generosity like this provide a glimmer of hope for those feeling the pinch at the pump.
