Australian Animation ‘Finally, a Show About Men!’ Sets YouTube Bow
Introducing “Finally, a Show About Men!”: A Satirical Look at Modern Masculinity
“Finally, a Show About Men!,” a new Australian short-form animated sketch comedy series, is set to premiere this Sunday on Aunty Donna’s Grouse House YouTube channel, produced by Gold Coast’s Sad Man Studio. The series, created by husbands Samuel Leighton-Dore and Bradley Tennant, aims to satirize and explore the complexities of modern masculinity in a humorous and relatable way.
The duo, who also co-direct the studio, have received support from Screen Queensland’s Online Production Grants to bring their vision to life. Leighton-Dore shared, “With ‘Finally, a Show About Men!,’ we wanted to create something emotionally honest, globally recognizable, and genuinely funny while delving into the paradoxes of modern manhood.”
The debut episode of the series, titled “A Scrum Is A Safe Space,” takes a rugby-themed approach to examining masculinity. Leighton-Dore and Tennant have previously collaborated on the animated short film “Sensitive Gym Bros” and are also working on an animated sitcom called “Willy,” which is currently in development at Ludo Studio.
“Screen Queensland is proud to support ‘Finally, a Show About Men!’ through our Online Production Grants, which aim to nurture emerging talent within the state,” said Julie Eckersley, executive director of Screen Content at Screen Queensland. The series showcases how online platforms provide a space for diverse voices to explore personal themes and connect with audiences in meaningful ways.
Leighton-Dore emphasized, “Being a man is multifaceted, serious, and often misunderstood, but it can also be surprisingly sweet and funny. We’re excited for audiences to engage with our unique take on masculinity.”
