Man charged in LaBagh Woods sexual assault after week-long manhunt
After a extensive search lasting a week, authorities have formally charged a man in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at a forest preserve on the Northwest Side. John G. Lang, 45, was brought before Judge John Hock at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse where he was ordered to be detained. The incident in question took place at LaBagh Woods, with the Forest Preserves of Cook County stating that Lang is alleged to have sexually assaulted a 29-year-old woman around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. The attack occurred in a densely wooded area approximately 500 feet from the parking lot on the eastern side of the preserve, situated between Bryn Mawr and Foster avenues, extending from Cicero Avenue to the Northeastern Illinois University campus. The victim was promptly taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Authorities had released a sketch of the suspected assailant earlier in the week, seeking assistance from the public in identifying him. The circumstances surrounding Lang’s arrest have not been disclosed, but he now faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault causing bodily harm and aggravated battery with strangulation.
