Former Gotham restaurant site in Manhattan has new owner
Exciting Times Ahead for Manhattan’s Iconic Restaurant Site
Manhattan’s legendary restaurant site at 12 East 12th St., which was once home to Gotham Bar and Grill and later Gotham, is about to undergo a transformation. Renowned Texas-born Italian chef Stefano Secchi, known for his Michelin-starred restaurants Rezdora and Massara in Flatiron, has purchased the retail condominium at this historic location.
Gotham, a Modern-American culinary icon, was once considered one of the city’s premier dining destinations. However, it faced challenges after the departure of chef Alfred Portale. Despite efforts by new owners and chefs, the restaurant closed its doors for good in 2024.
Secchi’s Emilia Romagna-inspired menu at Rezdora received high praise, with critics calling it “sinfully delicious.”
The two-level, 7,800 square-foot space was listed for $6.5 million, with Secchi emerging as the successful bidder among a competitive field of potential buyers.
While details about Secchi’s plans for the space are still scarce, the culinary world eagerly anticipates the revival of this iconic location. Notable chefs who have graced the kitchens of Gotham in the past include Tom Colicchio, Wylie Dufresne, Bill Telepan, and the late Tom Valenti.
