NBA does not upgrade Victor Wembanyama’s shove of Jalen Brunson

The NBA playoffs are in full swing, and tensions are running high as players battle it out on the court. In a recent game between the Spurs and the Knicks, a controversial incident involving Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson has sparked a heated debate.

During Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Wembanyama pushed Brunson from behind, causing the Knicks guard to fall to the floor. Many fans and analysts were quick to criticize Wembanyama for his actions, with some even calling the play “dirty.” However, the NBA has decided not to upgrade the foul to a flagrant, much to the dismay of Knicks fans.

This is not the first time Wembanyama has been involved in a controversial play. Earlier in the playoffs, he received a flagrant 2 penalty for throwing an elbow at another player. If he were to earn two more flagrant points, he would face a one-game suspension.

Despite the missed call on the play, NBA senior vice president Monty McCutchen stated that the league would need clear and conclusive evidence to upgrade the foul. He acknowledged that the referees had made a mistake in this instance but emphasized the importance of sticking to the rules.

The incident has sparked a debate among fans and former players, with many calling for harsher punishment for Wembanyama. Even Mayor Zohran Mamdani weighed in, expressing his belief that the play should have been deemed a flagrant.

As the series continues, all eyes will be on Wembanyama and Brunson as they face off once again in Game 4. The stakes are high, and tensions are sure to be running even higher as the two teams battle for the championship title. Stay tuned for more updates on this intense playoff series.
