PSA: Don’t Install One UI 8.5 On Your Samsung Galaxy Phone Yet

Samsung Galaxy S23 users are facing display issues after installing the One UI 8.5 update, according to a report by Tech Advisor. The problem manifests as green or pink lines on the screen, similar to previous complaints from Samsung users. This issue affects multiple models in the S23 series, including the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra, even without any prior physical damage to the devices.

One user on a Samsung forum, rapheal29, reported a green vertical line appearing on their Galaxy S23 after the software update. They emphasized that there was no physical damage, drops, water exposure, or impact to the device before the issue occurred. Other users have also reported a pink line instead of a green one, indicating a variation in the display problem.

Reports of this recurring display bug have been scattered across various online platforms, including Reddit and X forums, with multiple Galaxy S23-series handsets being affected. One X user mentioned that their Galaxy S23 Ultra also experienced the issue after the update, despite no prior damage to the device.

Samsung’s warranty coverage for a free screen replacement is limited to three years from the date of purchase. This means that users who bought their Galaxy S23 within four months of its release date in February 2023 may not be eligible for a free repair and may have to bear the cost themselves. Previous instances of the green line bug have suggested that overheating of the device could be a contributing factor, leading to unofficial advice to update the software at night and ensure the phone is not plugged in during use.

Considering the widespread nature of this display issue, it is advisable to hold off on installing the One UI 8.5 update on your Galaxy S23 to avoid potential problems. Looking ahead, Samsung is expected to introduce One UI 9, based on Android 17, on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 series in July. By being cautious with software updates and monitoring device temperature, users can potentially prevent display issues and ensure a smooth user experience with their Samsung Galaxy S23 devices.
