Wilyer Abreu, Connelly Early lead the Red Sox past the Mariners, 5-1

The Boston Red Sox secured a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park. Wilyer Abreu played a key role in the win, hitting a two-run homer off Mariners starter Emerson Hancock in the fourth inning. Connelly Early delivered a strong performance on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run over six innings. Despite a rocky start in the first inning, Early settled in and recorded seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Red Sox bullpen also shined, with Tyron Guerrero, Garrett Whitlock, and Danny Coulombe combining to pitch three scoreless innings to close out the game. Guerrero and Whitlock each recorded multiple strikeouts, while Coulombe worked a clean ninth inning to secure the win.

In addition to Abreu’s home run, the Red Sox added three more runs in the sixth inning. Abreu scored on a wild pitch, while Caleb Durbin and Marcelo Mayer contributed with RBI infield singles off Mariners reliever José A. Ferrer. The Red Sox showcased their speed on the basepaths, stealing three bases in the game, with Durbin swiping two.

With the win, the Red Sox improved to 42-35 on the season, while the Mariners dropped to 39-39. It was the first time the Mariners had been at .500 since May 29. The two teams were set to face off in the series finale on Sunday, with Payton Tolle scheduled to start for the Red Sox against Logan Gilbert for the Mariners.

Overall, it was a strong performance by the Red Sox, who will look to carry their momentum into the rest of the season. Fans can follow all the latest MLB news and updates on the AP MLB hub.
