Tragedy Strikes in Rittman, Ohio as Officer Responding to Gunshots is Fatally Shot

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a police officer responding to a 911 call about gunshots at a home in Rittman, Ohio, was fatally shot. The incident also resulted in the deaths of the suspect and two other individuals, according to Wayne County Sheriff Tom Ballinger.

Additionally, two other officers and a police dog were injured during the altercation, although their current conditions are not known at this time.

The tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night in Rittman, a community located approximately 40 miles south of Cleveland. Sheriff Ballinger revealed that the 911 call, reporting “some type of disturbance and shots fired,” came in around 9:30 p.m.

Ballinger recounted the harrowing events, stating, “Officers responded to the area and immediately started taking fire. At this point, we have lost an officer in the line of duty.”

As of now, the identities of the deceased individuals have not been disclosed by authorities. Sheriff Ballinger refrained from providing further details regarding the suspect and the two other victims, refusing to field any questions on the matter.
