AI actor Tilly Norwood set to star in first feature film
Particle6, a U.K.-based studio known for its innovative approach to AI-generated entertainment, is making waves in the film industry with its latest project. The studio, which specializes in creating movies and TV shows using artificial intelligence, recently announced the development of its new film “Misaligned,” starring the AI-generated actor Tilly Norwood.
Tilly Norwood, a digital thespian created by Particle6, is set to take the lead in “Misaligned,” marking her big-screen debut. Although Norwood is not a sentient being, she has been meticulously crafted by the studio’s team through the development of over 2,000 iterations of the AI tool. Eline van der Velden, the founder of Particle6 and a former actor herself, introduced Norwood to the public in 2025, showcasing the AI’s acting capabilities.
The upcoming film “Misaligned” is described as a surreal coming-of-age story set in a digital world located in the Cloud. The storyline revolves around Norwood’s character, an AI being with access to the childhoods and backstories of other humans but lacking any lived experience of her own. The film promises to explore themes of identity, performance, and the complex relationship between humans and AI.
Van der Velden emphasized that the studio’s goal with “Misaligned” is to showcase the potential of AI in filmmaking while highlighting the importance of human creativity and craftsmanship. The movie will be produced by a blend of traditional film professionals, including directors, writers, and editors, as well as AI specialists, demonstrating the collaborative nature of the project.
Despite the excitement surrounding Norwood’s debut, the entertainment industry has faced backlash over the use of AI-generated actors. Industry professionals, including the entertainment union SAG-AFTRA, have raised concerns about the displacement of human actors by synthetic performers. The union’s stance on the matter led to negotiations with major film studios in 2023, resulting in limitations on the use of AI technology in production.
As “Misaligned” gears up for production, Particle6 remains committed to pushing the boundaries of storytelling and technology. Van der Velden’s vision for the film is ambitious, aiming to blend humor, chaos, and self-awareness while delving into deeper themes of humanity and artificial intelligence.
