VooDoo Doughnut’s Venice Beach storefront closes after one year
VooDoo Doughnut, the popular Portland-based doughnut chain known for its eclectic flavors and dedicated following, has closed its Venice Beach location after just one year of operation.
Situated at 66 Windward Avenue, the store quietly ceased operations in June. Although the company website still lists the Venice location, the phone line has been disconnected.
The closure has surprised many locals who enjoyed the late-night spot, renowned for its VooDoo Doll doughnut, Bacon Maple Bars, and other unique creations.
VooDoo Doughnut initially opened in Venice in June 2025, near the famous boardwalk, and quickly became a hotspot for tourists and night owls. The closure has left a gap in the neighborhood’s late-night dessert options.
The company still runs multiple locations in Portland and has expanded to other cities across the US. However, the Venice closure signals a short-lived venture in the beachside community.
Venice was the brand’s latest venture into the California market outside of its original Portland roots. Its first California location opened in 2017 at Universal CityWalk Hollywood.
Following social media posts about the closure, customers took to platforms to share their thoughts. Many attributed the closure to local preferences that did not align with the offerings and the high cost of renting in the beach area.
One Facebook user commented, “I’m not surprised there’s not a huge demand for donuts in Venice. At least not more demand than Dunkin & other shops can satisfy.” Another user mentioned the impact of high rental costs in the area on retail vacancies and homelessness.
The company has not released an official statement regarding the reason for the closure or if they plan to maintain a presence elsewhere in West LA. Staff did not confirm the closure when contacted by The California Post for comment.
