David Chase Mulls Project About Italian Americans Moving to Italy

David Chase Considers New Project Centered on Italian Americans Moving to Italy

“The Sopranos” creator David Chase recently revealed his interest in exploring a new project focused on Italian Americans relocating to Italy. Speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Chase discussed the idea of showcasing the phenomenon of Italian Americans purchasing properties in abandoned towns in Italy. He mentioned that actress Lorraine Bracco, known for her role as Dr. Jennifer Melfi in ‘The Sopranos,’ had acquired a house in Italy at a minimal cost, sparking his curiosity about this trend.

Chase expressed his desire to delve into the experiences of four Italian Americans as they return to their ancestral homeland and encounter unexpected surprises along the way. The concept aims to explore themes of cultural identity, heritage, and the allure of a simpler life outside of the United States.

Moreover, Chase mentioned his intention to collaborate once again with actors John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, and Bella Heathcote from the 2012 film “Not Fade Away.” The filmmaker expressed a mutual interest in working with the ensemble cast on a new project, albeit exploring a different narrative than their previous music-themed endeavor.

Aside from his potential future projects, Chase also hinted at his ongoing partnership with HBO for the series “Project: MKUltra.” Based on real-life events surrounding chemist and spymaster Sidney Gottlieb, the show delves into the controversial MKUltra program and its impact on society during the Cold War era.
