Rolling gun battle leaves woman critically injured at Englewood bus stop, CPD says

A woman was critically injured in Englewood on Tuesday night during a rolling gunbattle between occupants of two cars. The incident occurred at a CTA bus stop in the 800 block of West 59th Street, where the woman was waiting for a ride just before 10 p.m. According to Chicago police, two dark-colored vehicles drove past and offenders inside both vehicles began shooting at each other. The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Contrary to the initial police statement, a witness provided a different account of the events. The witness reported seeing a blue sedan occupied by three individuals pull up to the bus stop. A rear-seat passenger in the sedan then opened fire on the woman before the car quickly fled the scene. Shell casings were concentrated in front of the bus shelter where the woman was shot, indicating a targeted attack rather than a random exchange of gunfire.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident to piece together the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the shooting. The discrepancy between the police report and the witness statement highlights the complexity of the case and the challenges faced by law enforcement in accurately determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

As the investigation continues, it is crucial for the community to remain vigilant and report any information that may aid in resolving the case. Public safety remains a top priority, and collaboration between law enforcement and residents is essential in ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.
