Chris Rock Returns to Directing and Stars Light Up Toronto Film Festival
Toronto is having a major entertainment moment, and Chris Rock is at the center of it. His new film, Misty Green, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12. Rock wrote and directed the drama, marking his first feature-length directing project since 2014’s Top Five. He also appears in the cast alongside Rosalind Eleazar, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace. TIFF and Variety report that the film follows a struggling actress trying to rebuild her Hollywood career.
The festival is also spotlighting Helen Mirren, who is promoting A Talent for Murder. She plays crime novelist Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s psychological thriller, which premiered at TIFF and is scheduled for U.S. theaters October 23. For music fans, Carly Rae Jepsen is preparing to release Day and Night on September 18. The 24-track double album is divided into an organic, live-instrumentation-focused “Day” and a synth-driven “Night.” Billboard reports that “On Wires” leads the project.
The lighter celebrity moments are getting attention, too. Ariana Grande shared a playful account of briefly getting stuck in an elevator after the final Eternal Sunshine Tour show.
