A New Medicare Program Just Made Weight-Loss Medications More Affordable : $50 a Month

Big news for our neighbors looking to balance their health and their budgets! As of July 1, 2026, a major shift in healthcare accessibility has arrived. The new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program is officially live, offering a much-needed financial break for those seeking weight-loss support.

The $50 Breakthrough

For years, the cost of advanced weight-loss medications has been a hurdle for many. This temporary federal demonstration program changes the game by offering eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries access to specific GLP-1 medications for a flat $50 monthly copay.

Covered Medications: Wegovy, Zepbound, Foundayo

What’s Covered?

The program specifically includes three key medications when prescribed for weight loss:

  • Wegovy (semaglutide)
  • Zepbound (tirzepatide)
  • Foundayo (tablet form)

Are You Eligible?

Unlike many previous programs, you don’t need a diabetes diagnosis to qualify. Eligibility is primarily based on your Body Mass Index (BMI):

  • BMI of 35 or higher
  • BMI of 30 or higher with specific health conditions like high blood pressure or heart failure.
  • BMI of 27 or higher with prediabetes or a history of heart attack/stroke.

Important Fine Print

While this is a fantastic “money-saving tip” for your lifestyle, there are two things to keep in mind. First, this is a temporary program scheduled to run through December 2027. Second, the $50 copay is handled outside your standard Part D benefit, meaning it does not count toward your yearly deductible or out-of-pocket maximums.

How to Start

To get started, talk to your doctor. They must submit a prior authorization request directly to the program’s central processor. At Brownstone Worldwide, we’re committed to keeping you informed on the latest lifestyle trends and health updates that impact your daily life.
