Aaron Judge misses 3rd straight game with bone bruise in rib as Yankees await clarity
NEW YORK — The New York Yankees are facing uncertainty as they await further information on Aaron Judge’s injury. Judge has been sidelined for three consecutive games due to a bone bruise in one of his right ribs, which is causing him right shoulder pain.
Manager Aaron Boone expressed his anticipation for updates on Judge’s condition, stating, “I absolutely expect something in the next couple of hours.” Judge underwent a CT scan on Thursday morning after having an MRI earlier in the week. The bruise was initially discovered during testing on the team’s off day on Monday.
The slugger’s history of injuries is concerning, as he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in one of his right ribs in March 2020. This injury stemmed from a diving play he made in September 2019, though he managed to play through the 2020 season, which was delayed due to the pandemic.
Despite his injury woes, Judge has been a key contributor to the Yankees’ lineup, hitting .248 with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs this season. However, his performance has dipped recently, with only one home run in his last 18 games since May 10. He ended an 11-game homer and RBI drought with a game-winning two-run homer on May 24 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The absence of Judge has put pressure on the Yankees’ outfield depth, especially with Giancarlo Stanton also sidelined with a strained calf since April 24. José Caballero and Max Schuemann have been filling in for Judge in right field, but the team is hopeful for Judge’s swift return.
As the Yankees navigate through Judge’s injury, they will need to rely on their depth to maintain their competitiveness in the American League. The team will continue to monitor Judge’s progress and make decisions accordingly to ensure his long-term health and performance on the field.
