AMA To Launch U.S. Campaign To Rebuild ‘Trust In Medicine, Science’
The American Medical Association has announced its plans to launch a national campaign aimed at combating health misinformation and rebuilding trust in medicine. The campaign, titled “Have You asked your Doctor?” will focus on restoring confidence in medicine, science, and physician expertise in a time when these elements are facing scrutiny.
Dr. John Whyte, the CEO of the AMA, revealed details about the campaign during a speech to the group’s policy-making House of Delegates in Chicago. The initiative comes as a response to the growing vaccine skepticism fueled by figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Trump administration. The AMA has been vocal in opposing changes to the vaccine schedule that its member doctors believe put children at risk.
In addition to addressing vaccine skepticism, the AMA has also been advocating for greater accountability in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The organization is concerned about the rapid adoption of AI without adequate safeguards in place to protect patients. The AMA has been actively fighting against AI deepfakes and false medical claims that spread misinformation online.
Dr. Whyte emphasized the importance of the AMA serving as a trusted partner for physicians as they navigate the changing landscape of medicine. He highlighted the accelerating forces reshaping healthcare, the evolving technology in care delivery, and the need to uphold trust in science and institutions.
The AMA did not disclose the exact budget allocated for the campaign, but more details are expected to be released in the coming months. The organization’s commitment to combating health misinformation and supporting physician expertise reflects its dedication to ensuring the public has access to accurate and reliable medical information.
