Americans are unhappy about the economy and reeling from high prices: Polls

The state of the national economy in the United States is causing increasing concern among Americans, with many pointing the blame at President Donald Trump. Multiple polls conducted recently have shed light on the growing pessimism and dissatisfaction with the current economic situation.

According to Gallup, nearly half of Americans, 47%, believe that the current economic conditions are poor, marking a 7-point increase from the previous month. Additionally, 73% of respondents stated that they believe the economy is deteriorating, which is also a 7-point increase from the previous month. Another poll by Fox News found that 70% of registered voters think the economy is getting worse, reflecting a 15-point increase from the same period last year.

The negative sentiment towards the economy is also reflected in the Gallup Economic Confidence Index, which dropped by 11 points in the past month, reaching its lowest level since November 2023. Despite Republicans being the only group to rate the economy positively in the index, even they experienced a significant decline in economic confidence.

When it comes to assigning blame for the economic woes, most voters point the finger at Trump. According to the Fox News poll, a majority of voters believe that Trump’s policies are hurting rather than helping the economy, with 56% stating that his policies are having a negative impact. This sentiment is echoed in other polls, with an increasing number of Americans attributing the country’s inflation issues to Trump’s policies.

Furthermore, the high prices of essential goods such as gas and groceries are adding to the dissatisfaction. A large percentage of Americans have noticed the rise in prices, with 93% stating that gas prices have increased in the last six months. The impact of these high prices is evident in the personal finances of Americans, with a significant number of voters rating their financial situation as only fair or poor.

To cope with the rising costs, many Americans are cutting back on expenses, such as entertainment and travel. The CNBC poll revealed that a majority of voters have taken measures to reduce their spending in response to the high costs of gas and food. Additionally, the war in Iran is also being blamed for the increase in gas prices, with a majority of voters stating that the war is not worth the financial burden it has placed on them.

Overall, the polls indicate a growing sense of economic pessimism among Americans, with many attributing their financial struggles to Trump’s policies. The high prices of essential goods are further exacerbating the situation, leading to widespread dissatisfaction with the state of the economy. As Americans continue to navigate these challenging economic times, it remains to be seen how policymakers will address these concerns and work towards improving the country’s economic outlook.
