Asif Kapadia to Conclude Landmark British Docuseries ‘7 Up’
Asif Kapadia is gearing up to wrap up the iconic British TV docuseries, the “Up” series, with the final chapter titled “70 Up.” This groundbreaking series began in 1964 with “7 Up,” following the lives of 10 boys and four girls in England from the age of seven. Over the years, the cameras revisited the participants every seven years, documenting their journey through various stages of life.
With nine episodes already released, the series faced a significant transition following the passing of director Michael Apted in 2021. Award-winning documentarian Asif Kapadia, known for films like “Amy” and “Senna,” has stepped in to direct the final two-part installment. Titled “70 Up,” the films will catch up with the participants as pensioners, reflecting on their life experiences and aspirations.
Kapadia expressed his excitement about taking on this project, stating, “I love the show! I have watched it all my life, first as a child with my parents and siblings, growing up in East London and then as an adult.” He also shared his admiration for Apted and the opportunity to work on such a renowned documentary series.
The production team for “70 Up” includes producer George Chignell, production executive Helen Houston, and Claire Lewis, who has been involved in the series since “28 Up.” The series is set to air later in 2026 and has been commissioned by ITV, with distribution handled by ITV Studios globally, excluding North America.
The closing chapter of the “Up” series promises to be a poignant reflection on human life, expertly crafted by Kapadia and his team. As viewers eagerly anticipate the final installment, the legacy of this groundbreaking documentary series continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
